Between Berlin and Jerusalem: Jewish Problems - German Problems
That Germany has a "past" ( the Holocaust) makes its attitudes toward Jews and Israel seen in a different light from the recent surge in antisemitism in Western Europe. This legacy has created a unique scenario of a unity between the Left and Right in Germany against Israel (the Jews), as well as a reworking of history to make Germans the victims of the Anglo-American bombings in World War II. This relativizing of suffering has struck a chord with many Germans. The taboos of antisemitism have been broken, along with a new renewed rising of German patriotism vis-a-vis World War II victories and heroes, and a call for closing the door on its Nazi past. According to David Witzhum, the European continent has begun a "historic process of saying goodbye to Israel. The Jews are inconvenient ghosts of the past" who interfere with European relations with Moslems. Professor Wistrich discusses the notoriety of self-hating Jews, especially Norman Finkelstein and Uri Avenery who are regarded as media stars in Germany. Professor Timm calls for a public discussion of this problem and a more balanced picture of Israel. Professor Mendels moderates the presentation and relates his experiences in Germany as a visiting professor at the University of Bonn.
Professor Doron Mendels, Professor of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is the author of The Rise and Fall of Jewish Nationalism, and a former visiting professor at the University of Bonn; Professor Angelika Timm, Professor of History at Bar Ilan University, is author of World War Two and Shoa in the Culture of Memory of the German Democratic Republic; David Witzhum is a former correspondent for The Israel Broadcasting Authority in Germany, and producer of the documentary Jewish History, German History, Politics and Classical Music, and Professor Robert Wistrich is the Director of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and author of several books, including The Lethal Obsession.

Radical Islam: Israel And The West
The failed modernity of the Arab (Islamic) world has contributed greatly to the present day terrorism against Israel and the West. For the first time in 1,000 years the Arabs are in control of their fate, yet without the natural resources of oil, natural gas and other natural resources, their wealth has fallen behind most other areas of the world. In this lecture Professor Lewis explains that rather than blaming themselves for their decline and improving themselves by westernizing, many have turned to the radical forms of Islam — Wahabism, Salafism, Khomeini Shiaism, et al — and Jihadism. They believe that it was Islam (The Mujahideen) that defeated the Soviet Union in 1989. They point with pride to 9/11 and the Iranian revolution; they believe that they will finally prevail in Europe (the third invasion); and they believe that they are in a war with the unbelievers of America. They believe that all the ills of the Islamic Arab world can be laid at the feet of America and Israel.
Professor Bernard Lewis, distinguished scholar of Islam and the Arab world, has authored many books on this subject including Faith and Power: Religion and Politics in the Middle East; Islam: The Religion and People; From Babel to Dragomans: Interpreting the MIddle East; Holy War and Unholy Terror, and What Went Wrong. RADICAL ISLAM: ISRAEL AND THE WEST is moderated and introduced by Professor Robert Wistrich, director of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and author of several books, including The Lethal Obsession.

Radical Islam: War Against The West
There is a fundamental misunderstanding of Islam because of its dual meaning as a religion and as a civilization, somewhat like Christianity and Christendom, now referred to as Western civilization. This misunderstanding includes its role with Christianity as a triumphalist religion — the only way to salvation — in a war with the unbelievers. The defeat of the Red Army by the Taliban and the surrender mode of Europe toward Islam has engendered great support for a Jihadist radical Islam with worldwide ramifications. Professor Lewis explains that the antisemitism now totally Islamized was exported to Arab lands from Europe, most recently from Nazi Germany. Like its European counterpart, it imputes to Jews and Judaism a cosmic evil that formerly didn't exist in the world of Islam but is now an intrinsic part of it. This and its apocalyptic worldview is a great challenge for the future of the world.

Israel, The Jews And The Sunni-Siite Conflict
While the Sunni and Shiite variants of Islam originally arose out of succession (who would lead Islam after Muhammad's death) and not heresy, it has become a flashpoint in the Islamic world leading to armed conflict most recently in Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Lebanon,Yemen and Syria — as well as a reassessment in the Arab world (Saudi Arabia) towards Iran. Israel's policy and understanding toward this conflict is explored in this lecture, especially in regard to Iran and its implications in the spread of antisemitism.
This lecture features Professor Bernard Lewis, distinguished scholar of Islam and the Arab world, and author of several books, including Faith and Power: Religion and Politics in the Middle East, and What Went Wrong; Efraim Halevy, former head of the Mossad, director of the Shasha Institute of Strategic Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and author of Man In The Shadows, and Dore Gold, former Israel Ambassador to the United Nations, director of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, and author of Hatred's Kingdom. Israel, The Jews And The Sunni-Siite Conflict is moderated and introduced by Professor Robert Wistrich, director of the Vidal Sassoon International Institute for the Study of antisemitism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and author of several books, including The Lethal Obsession.
